RDMP - Earthquake risk project
In this project we collect publicly available data on
Japanese property prices and characteristics, ward attractiveness information,
macroeconomic variables, long run seismic hazard data, and earthquake
occurrence records. The main research questions are (1) Do objective long-run
earthquake probabilities have an effect on property prices? (2) If so, do
objective short-run earthquake probabilities have an effect on property prices,
in addition to the effect of long-run probabilities? (3) And do potentially
distorted short-run earthquake probabilities have an effect on property prices,
in addition to the effect of long-run probabilities?
The property prices and characteristics information are collected from the real estate transaction-price information dataset provided by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism website: www.land.mlit.go.jp/webland_english/servlet/MainServlet.
The geographical coordinates of the station and district that a property is located in is collected via Google Maps.
The ward attractiveness information is downloaded from the portal site of official statistics of Japan, www.e-stat.go.jp/SG1/estat/eStatTopPortalE.do.
Macroeconomics data is downloaded from the Japanese Cabinet Office website
www.esri.cao.go.jp/index-e.html, the Statistics Bureau of Japan
www.stat.go.jp/english/data/cpi/index.htm, and Bank of Japan www.stat-search.boj.or.jp/index_en.html#.
Long run seismic hazard data is downloaded from the Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station (J-SHIS) www.j-shis.bosai.go.jp/en/glossary.
Earthquake occurrences records are downloaded from the Japan Meteorological Agency website www.data.jma.go.jp/svd/eqev/data/bulletin/shindo_e.html.
The data collection has not been submitted to approval by the ethics committee.
The raw data can be collected at the resources online and will not be separately stored. The cleaned and transformed data is stored in csv files and can be found in https://github.com/yy112/earthquake-risk/tree/master/data.
