Video 3 - Amblyseius andersoni females on honeysuckle leaves with spider mites and sticky droplets

Download (3.18 GB)
Time-lapse video showing the interaction between honeysuckle leaves with sticky droplets, the herbivore mites feeding on the leaves, and omnivore mites.

Two adult female omnivore mites (Amblyseius andersoni) were introduced to the bottom side of a honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum) leaf, which was previously fed upon by spider mites (Tetranychus urticae) and produced sticky droplets as a result. A Nikon D750 camera with a macro 60mm lens and a ring LED lamp was mounted on a vertical stand and positioned above the leaf. Recording started one minute after mites were added to the arenas. Pictures were taken every 20sec for 24 consecutive hours with an automated shutter, and assembled into a 10frames per second video.
