Video 1 - Generalist spider mites on honeysuckle

Download (1.05 GB)
Time-lapse video showing the sequence of steps leading to the production of sticky droplets on honeysuckle leaves after mite herbivory.

Five adult female spider mites (Tetranychus urticae, generalist line C2N3a) were introduced to the bottom side of a honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum) leaf. A Nikon D750 camera with a macro 60mm lens and a ring LED lamp was mounted on a vertical stand and positioned above the leaf with a tripod. Recording started one minute after mites were added to the arenas. Pictures were taken every 30sec for 12 consecutive hours with an automated shutter, and assembled into a 10frames per second video.
