This collection includes the data files, R scripts, and html files that belong to the study "Numerical knowledge in Czech-speaking children with and without Developmental Dysphasia."

There are one RMD file and one html file provided for each numerical competence tested in the present study. We used two tasks to measure children's counting abilities - Rote Counting and Next Number. The analyses for these tasks can be found in "CountingAndNextNumber(.rmd/html)". We tested children knowledge of lower cardinals and ordinals with the Tell Me and Give Me tasks. The regression models for these tasks can be found in "TellMeGiveMeAnalysis(.rmd/html)". The file "Background Measures(.rmd/html)" provide the t-tests to determine group differences on the background measures as well as Spearman correlation tests between all tasks in both groups.

The RMD file for the Rote Counting and Next Number analysis makes use of the following csv-files:

AllTasks.csv

NextNumber.csv

The RMD file for the Tell Me and Give analysis makes use of the following csv-file:

TellMeCom.csv (this file only contains data of children who completed the full task)

GiveMeCom.csv (this file only contains data of children who completed the full task)

The RMD file with the t-tests and correlations makes use of the following csv-file:

AllTasks.csv

The data for this study can be found in the following spreadsheets:

AllTasks.csv - This spreadsheet gives an overview of the age and scores of every child (subject) on every task: Raven, Sentence Repetition (SR), Nonword Repetition (NWR), Passive Vocabulary (VOC), Word Recall Forward and Backward (WRFW & WRBW), the Next Number task, and separately for the ordinal and cardinal trials of the Give Me (GM) and Tell Me (TM) tasks. We also give scores for the Digit Span Forward and Backward tasks (DSFW and DSBW). More information about the task instructions and scores can be found in our paper and in the experiment files. The file AllTasks.csv also contains children's highest counts and the PTP analysis (for each highest count between 22 and 109 we determined whether this was considered Procedural Transition Point (PTP) or not (Yes vs No).

NextNumber.csv - This spreadsheet gives the Next Number results. For each child we documented their responses (if any) to each of the 18 items. When a child did not answer, the response is notated as 'x'. We also determined for each response whether it was correct (1) or incorrect (0) (Accuracy) and categorized them in different Response Types.

TellMeCom.csv and TellMeAll.csv - This spreadsheets give the Tell Me results. The spreadsheets document the exact answers produced by children in response to each trial, as well as the Accuracy (correct = 1, incorrect = 0) and the the categorization in different Response Types. The csv-file TellMeAll.csv also included the responses of the child that did not complete the task.

GiveMeCom.csv and GiveMeAll.csv - These spreadsheets give the Give Me results. The spreadsheets document which or how many items children gave in response to each trial, as well as the Accuracy (correct = 1, incorrect = 0). The file also gives information about the categorization of each response in different Response Types. The csv-file GiveMeAll.csv also included the responses of the child that did not complete the task.

KnowerLevelAnalysis.csv - This spreadsheet shows how we determined each child's knower level following the criteria formulated by Le Corre & Carey (2007). For each child we show how many mistakes (out of three) they made in response to each cardinal during the Give Me Task in the column 'Errors' as well as the number of times that same quantity was used in response to another cardinal ('ErrorOnOtherCardinal'). Note that not all children finished the complete Give Me task, but we were able to infer their KnowerLevels based on the trials they did complete in combination with their Tell Me performance. Further explanation of our knower-level analysis can be found in Knowerlevelanalysis.docx.

ExcludedChildrenOverview.csv . This file gives an overview of all task scores of children with a DD diagnosis who were excluded from the analysis due to unexpectedly high scores on the language measures. Elaborate scores for each of these eight children for the number tasks can be found in: NextNumberExcluded.csv, TellMeExcluded.csv, GiveMeExcluded.csv.

These data were collected and analyzed as part of the research for a dissertation written Heleen de Vries, under supervision of Judith Rispens, Caitlin Meyer, and Alla Peeters-Podgaevskaja.
