Background of the case study and data used in the Echnaton project

Effectiveness and implementation of school-based interventions aimed at stimulating physical activity among prevocational students still show a lot of variability and are not yet well described in the literature. This case study followed a secondary school through the intention and subsequent 8-year transition to a health promoting school. The study aims to elaborate upon the development, implementation and sustainment of the Dutch Echnaton Health Promoting School program as an example on how to expand the HPS model of health promotion through co-creative participatory methods and use of a systems science framework. Secondly, it aims to evaluate the effects these changes have had on students' physical activity behaviour and physical performance over the course of five years. The data included here content the physical activity behaviour (DOiT questionnaire) and physical performance (Eurofit-test) of 12 to-16-year-old prevocational students (n=840) in this study. The data set contents two cohorts of students and is structured longitudinally. The cohorts started in the year 2013 and 2014 and were followed for subsequent four years. These data are part of a bigger picture of data collected, however, other items cannot be shared due to sensitivity or protection of personal data.
